Rate limiting (also known as frequency capping) in Ometria means setting a limit on the number of emails a contact receives per day and per week.
Generally, it’s uncommon to send ‘too many emails’, especially when using automated campaigns, but can sometimes happen if you are running a lot of campaigns at the same time.
How it works
When an email is about to be sent, Ometria automatically checks the total number of emails a contact has received within the specified time period - set by you.
- If the contact is over the limit, the email is queued and Ometria attempts to resend it every 15 minutes, for up to 12 hours.
- If the contact is still over the maximum number of emails after that 12 hour time period, the email is discarded.
How do I use it?
Go to Account > Settings and select the Email Settings tab:
Maximum emails sent per 24 hours: Ometria checks if a contact has been sent X number of emails in the last 24 hours.
Maximum emails sent per 7 days: Ometria checks if a contact has been sent X number of emails in the last 7 days.
You don’t have to fill in both fields; you can choose to only activate rate limiting for a daily or weekly limit.
