Note: The price drop feature for automation campaigns is currently in beta. If you are interested in learning more please contact your customer success manager (CSM) in the first instance.

On this page:

Overview

Trigger automation campaigns to send when a contact has viewed a product which has dropped in price.

A contact’s entry into this campaign can only be triggered by one product, and price drop campaigns will only include one product in the email.

If a contact has viewed multiple products which all drop in price at the same time then Ometria selects the product which has the highest price after the price drop.

Contacts can be entered into the campaign multiple times for multiple products by using the re-entry condition.

Ometria looks for contacts that viewed the product in the past 6 weeks, and checks that they did not purchase the product in that time.

Template blocks for price drop

We have created a new template block for using the price drop feature:

  • If you are an existing client, please request this from your customer success manager (CSM).
  • If you are an onboarding client, this block is already added to your template by default.

For now there is just a standard block available. For further variants speak to your CSM.

Go to: Campaigns > Automation Campaigns

Select CREATE NEW CAMPAIGN to start a new campaign.

Create a new price drop automation campaign

Set up your entry trigger

An entry trigger, or ‘triggering event’ is the event that enrols a contact in a flow, e.g. contact has viewed a product in the last 6 weeks which has now dropped in price/gone on sale.

Price drop will be triggered on a drop in ‘price’ or ‘special price’.

Mouse-over the Trigger tile and select the cog icon to configure:

Set up your trigger as follows:

The contact has… recently viewed a product that went on sale.

Add condition: Limit to selected products (which is one of) > select your products to include

Add condition: Exclude selected products (which is one of) > select your products to exclude

Percentage price drop to consider: enter the percentage drop to considered.

E.g. If you enter 20%, this trigger will automate when the selected products drop by any percentage of 20% or higher.

Select SAVE.

Set up the rest of your flow as required.

Define a reentry condition

It’s a good idea to define whether a contact can only enter your flow once, or if they can re-enter after a certain period of time.

This means that if a contact has viewed several products which drop in price at different times (depending on your campaign's entry wait node), they could re-enter the flow after the set period and receive another price drop email for a different product.

To set a reentry condition, mouse-over your entry condition tile and select the  icon.

Select ‘Reentry is allowed after period’:

Specify your reentry time period (in hours, days or weeks) and then select SAVE to finalise your reentry condition.

Set an entry wait node

Before adding any action nodes, you might want to set a wait time to delay any further actions with contacts who have entered your automation flow.

While a wait node in general pauses your contacts until the wait limit is met, the entry wait node - i.e. the wait node immediately after your entry condition - counts from when the entry trigger occurred. In this case, that’s the moment the price of the product dropped.

So, you may want to add a wait time if, for example, your sale begins at midnight, to prevent all of your contacts receiving the campaign in the middle of the night,

Select the cog icon in the wait tile to define your entry wait, then select ‘Wait a specific duration’:

Specify your wait time (in hours, days or weeks) and then select SAVE to finalise your entry wait node.

Edit your template

Once you are happy with the automation flow, add an ‘Action’ tile and select ‘Send email’:

From here you can choose an email template, enter a subject line and preheader, select a product to recommend and add a coupon code.

The 'Send email' balloon displays.

Click EDIT THIS SEND to choose and edit your template.

Note: Remember to use the PRICE DROP BLOCK in your template.

Testing mode for price drop campaigns

When you are ready to save and publish your automation campaign you have the option to enter testing mode.

In testing mode, the flow is live and will trigger emails based on real events on your website, but the emails will send to the 'Ometria-testing' email address instead of to real contacts.

Be aware that when testing campaigns with a price drop trigger, the price must drop within the parameters you set in order to send a test.

As price drops occur less frequently than some other triggers (e.g. abandon basket), these campaigns might spend longer in testing mode.

Merge tags

In addition to Ometria's standard merge tags, we’ve created several tags just for the price drop trigger:

Merge tabDescription
{{ product.price_drop_amount }}The difference in price (after the price drop).
{{ product.price_drop_currency }}Currency for prices in the price drop at account level.
{{ product.price_drop_new_price_raw }}The difference in price (formatted without currency).
{{ product.price_drop_new_price }}The new price of the product after the price drop.
{{ product.price_drop_percentage }}The percentage by which the price has dropped.
{{ product.price_drop_previous_price_raw }}Previous price (formatted without currency).
{{ product.price_drop_previous_price }}Previous price (with currency).
