Overview

You can apply tracking parameters to automation campaigns in two places:

  • At account level in the email settings tab, which defines the default parameters for all automation campaigns.
  • At campaign level, in the automation flow for your individual campaign.

The logic Ometria uses when appending tracking parameters to email links is:

  • Take the default automation tracking parameters defined at account level.
  • Take the campaign tracking parameters defined at campaign leveland add to or merge with those at account level.
    • If there is a clash, parameters at campaign level overwrite those at account level.
    • If there isn't a value yet (in account or campaign settings) Ometria takes the default tracking parameters for automation (these are "utm_medium", "utm_source" and "utm_campaign") and uses their default values.

Add tracking parameters at account level

Go to: Account > Settings > Email Settings

Under AUTOMATION CAMPAIGNS, locate the ‘Default tracking parameters’ fields and enter:

  • Your tracking parameter
  • The parameter value

See the list of default tracking parameters for reference.

You can also select a user attribute from the ‘Insert personalisation’ drop-down list. This will populate the required merge tag, allowing you to track attribution specific to the contact who clicks through to those fields.

You can use ‘Insert personalisation’, or you can use any merge tags to include data here.

Select ADD to add further parameters.

Click SAVE to preserve your changes.

Note: Any tracking parameters that you add at ‘campaign level’ will add to, merge with, or overwrite the tracking parameters you defined at ‘account level’.

Merge tags

You can add merge tags in your tracking parameters if you want to report on specific parts of your automation flow.

For template:

{{email.template_title}} - where the title of the template used is as defined under Campaigns > Templates

For example, you can label a send node in your automation flow and then add the merge tag {{node_title}} to your utm_content parameter:

utm_content={{email.node_title}}

Add further granularity by appending the segment and node titles, concatenating this - for example:

utm_content={{segment_title}}_{{node_title}}

See merge tags for more.
