It is possible to include video in an email, but we don’t recommend it for the following reasons:
Lack of support
Not all email clients support video embedding, which means that videos might not display correctly or even display at all from some recipients.
In fact, most email clients block video content by default due to security concerns, and some mark such emails as spam.
Video size
Video file sizes tend to be very large, which means that embedding them in an email makes the email take longer to load and download.
This is especially frustrating for recipients with slow internet connections, who might give up on opening the email altogether.
It might get marked as spam
Email clients are becoming more sensitive to emails which large file sizes or embedded content.
Emails containing videos are more likely to be flagged as spam by filters.
Compatibility issues
Different email clients have different requirements for embedding videos, e.g. some require non-standard HTML or CSS code.
This makes it difficult to be sure that the video displays correctly across all email clients.
Poor data
An embedded video has no click through, so there's no way of reporting on how many of your recipients watched your video.
What can I do instead?
We recommend using an animated GIF if your video doesn't need sound, or using a GIF or static image with a play button overlay and use that image as a link to your video hosted on your website or video platform.
Still want to embed a video?
For all the reasons listed above, we don't recommend embedding a video in your emails.
However, if you still want to do this, you can use third-party code.
You should already have a block in your template for third-party code (usually named “image/html”), if you don’t, speak with your Customer Success Representative about getting it added free of charge.
Please be aware that Ometria cannot offer support for your third-party video code.
