Ometria's integration with BigCommerce syncs your customer, subscriber, order and product data to Ometria, and adds Ometria's JavaScript tracking to your storefront so you can track visitor behaviour.
Note: BigCommerce integrations are set up and managed by the Ometria team. To get started, contact your Customer Success Manager or Technical Partner Manager - they'll guide you through what's needed and coordinate the setup for you.
What the integration does
Once live, the integration will:
- sync your existing customers, subscribers, orders and products to Ometria, from a historical start date agreed with you
- keep this data up to date automatically on an ongoing basis
- inject Ometria JavaScript tracking into your BigCommerce storefront(s) to track visitor activity
Both single-store and multi-store BigCommerce accounts are supported. For multi-store accounts, each storefront is configured individually with its corresponding price list (currency).
How often does data sync?
| Data type | Sync frequency |
|---|---|
| Customers | Every 15 minutes |
| Orders | Every 5 minutes |
| Subscribers | Every 5 minutes |
| Products | Once daily |
BigCommerce customisations
You can customise both your customer and product records in BigCommerce for Ometria to retrieve.
Customer fields
If you have custom fields created in the Account Signup Form section of your BigCommerce account, they are automatically sent to Ometria.
These fields won't display in your Ometria account until you create the corresponding custom fields in the platform.
Note: Field names in Ometria must be lowercase and contain no spaces. So if you have a custom field in BigCommerce called 'My custom field', your field ID in Ometria should be my_custom_field in order to map correctly.
Product fields
When you send any of the following from BigCommerce:
- Variants
- Variant options
- Shared variant options
You are creating product variants in Ometria.
Variant options and shared variant options are stored as product attributes in Ometria, which can be used to filter and segment your contacts.
E.g. you can use the customer filter to find all contacts who have ordered a product with a specific variant option.
Product custom fields from BigCommerce are stored as properties in Ometria, which can be used in merge tags to personalise your campaign templates.
How setup works
Your Ometria team carries out the configuration for you. To gather everything needed, your Technical Partner Manager will share a copy of the BigCommerce Integration Intake Form with you - this is the single place where all setup details are collected and confirmed, and it's what the Ometria team works from during configuration.
The intake form covers three areas:
- BigCommerce credentials — the API details from your store (see Step 1 below)
- Store setup — how many storefronts you have and, for multi-store accounts, their names, price lists and channel IDs
- Configuration — your product identifier, historical import dates, and order status mapping
Step 1: Create a BigCommerce API account
Log into your BigCommerce admin panel and go to Advanced Settings > API Accounts.
Select Create API Account > Create V2/V3 API Token, and choose the following OAuth scopes:
| Field | Setting |
|---|---|
| Content | Modify |
| Checkout Content | Modify |
| All other sections | Read-Only |
Note: The Content – Modify and Checkout Content – Modify scopes are required for Ometria to deploy JavaScript tracking to your storefront via BigCommerce's Script Manager. Please don't add Ometria tracking scripts to your site manually.
BigCommerce automatically downloads the key details. Keep a secure copy of:
| Field | Example |
|---|---|
| CLIENT ID | ixxxxxxxxxd |
| ACCESS TOKEN | dxxxxxxxxx6 |
| API PATH | https://api.bigcommerce.com/stores/**xxxxxxxxx**/v3/ |
The access token is shown once only - copy it immediately.
The store hash is the value in the middle of the API path, shown in bold above.
Step 2: Complete the intake form with your TPM/CSM
Your Technical Partner Manager or Customer Success Manager will work through the intake form with you. Here's what you'll be asked to provide:
BigCommerce credentials (from Step 1)
| Item | Where to find it |
|---|---|
| Client ID | From the API account you created in Step 1 |
| Access token | Same screen — shown once only, so copy it immediately |
| Store hash | The value in the API Path field: https://api.bigcommerce.com/stores/{STORE HASH}/v3 |
Note: Never share credentials by email. Your TPM/CSM will send you a secure link (e.g. 1Password) to submit them safely.
Store setup
| Item | Notes |
|---|---|
| Number of storefronts | Each BigCommerce storefront becomes one channel in Ometria |
| Storefront names (multi-store only) | Every storefront, e.g. UK Store, US Store, EU Store |
| Price list per storefront (multi-store only) | Found in BigCommerce Admin → Products > Price Lists |
| Channel ID per storefront (multi-store only) | Found in BigCommerce Admin → Channel Manager |
Configuration
| Item | Notes |
|---|---|
| Product identifier | Whether you use SKU or Product ID to identify products - this must match how products are identified in Ometria |
| Historical orders start date | The date you'd like your order history imported from (YYYY-MM-DD) |
| Historical subscribers start date | The date you'd like your subscriber history imported from (YYYY-MM-DD) |
| Order status mapping | You'll review each order status - including any custom statuses you've created - with your TPM to confirm how they map in Ometria |
Once the intake form is complete, the Ometria team will configure the integration, set up JavaScript tracking, and confirm with you when data is flowing. JavaScript tracking is typically live within 10–15 minutes of setup completing.
Limitations
Ometria's BigCommerce integration does not support:
- Transactional emails
- Multi-currency single stores - a single store selling in multiple currencies without price lists is not supported; multi-store setups with price lists are supported
- Near-real-time product updates - product data syncs once daily
Questions?
If you have any questions about the integration or would like to get started, contact your Customer Success Manager or Technical Partner Manager, or submit a request.
