Product blocks let you display products in your emails, including product images, prices and links to product pages on your website.
There are two types of product block:
- Product selector: The standard product block, available to all clients. You choose which products to display when creating the template.
- Specified products: An automation block designed for clients using Shopify Markets. Product information is personalised for each recipient at send time, based on their home store and associated market.
Both blocks also support the product id based custom field feature.
Product selector
The Product selector lets you choose which products to display in your email.
First, select the store you want to use from the store dropdown. The product list will then filter to show products available in that store.
When product information is populated
Product information, including prices and images, is populated when you create the template. It isn't refreshed when the email is sent or opened.
This means that if you add a product to a template and its details change afterwards (for example, its price drops), the block will continue to display the original information.
Specified products
Unlike the Product selector, Specified products doesn't require you to select a store. You simply choose the products you want to include in the block.
At send time, the platform uses each recipient's home store to retrieve the relevant market information for the selected products. This includes:
- Currency
- Price
- Product URL
- Availability
The appropriate product information is then included in each recipient's email.
Displaying prices and product attributes
Both product blocks let you display more than just product images. You can also include prices and additional product attributes, such as brand, style or colour, as image captions.
To configure these details:
- Select the edit icon next to the product in the block.
- Edit the product title or add raw data containing the additional attributes you want to display.
Adding additional product attributes
To display attributes such as brand, you first need to add extra_data to the Product selector in the master template.
You can then use JSON syntax in the visual editor to edit the brand or other values stored in extra_data.
If you need help configuring this, contact Support.
This functionality applies to both Product selector and Specified products blocks, including when using the custom field bolt-on.
