The Display and timing tab in your overlay blueprint or version defines when, where and how you want your overlay to display to visitors on your site:
By default, overlays display once every 24 hours, but you can change the frequency for this specific overlay here:
Visitor rule display
Decide which visitors you'd like to show your overlay to:
- Only unidentified visitors
- Only identified visitors
- All visitors

Display settings
Select from the dropdown to either:
- Show on every page or;
- Target or exclude pages (e.g. product pages or shopping cart).
If you choose Target or exclude pages, you can specify whether to target/exclude pages containing a specific string in the URL:
If you include more than one option, Ometria uses AND logic.
In this example, the overlay shows on both the earrings AND rings pages:
If you want to show your overlay on all pages and exclude only a few of them, use the Exclude pages containing option.
Tags
If you have one store URL for all of your markets (e.g. example.com serves the UK, US, Germany, France, etc.), then you'll need to set JavaScript tags on your store to use multi-market overlays.
See: Overlays tags
When to display
Select either:
- the Show on entry after x seconds option and set how many seconds after the page has loaded that the overlay should display, or;
- the Show on exit option to display the overlay when a visitor is leaving the page - on desktop this means the visitor's mouse leaves the window, on mobile this means the visitor is scrolling upwards quickly.
Frequency rules
Next, set your Frequency rules, i.e. when to stop showing your overlay to visitors.
- Stop showing after overlay displayed x times
- Don’t show again if the form is closed
- Always show overlay
Frequency for multiple overlays
The frequency you set here affects any other overlays active on your site.
Once an overlay is displayed for a visitor, the cooldown period applies to all over overlays during their visit.
This means if you have two separate overlays (e.g. entry and exit), both set to show every hour, visitors will only see one overlay in a single session, assuming the session is less than an hour.
