This article provides best practices and guidance for successfully migrating your SMS campaigns from your previous provider to Ometria.
For more information on Ometria SMS and guides to the technical setup, see: Getting started with SMS
Before migrating: Inform your SMS contacts
We recommend sending two text messages to your subscribers to let them know your sender ID (phone number) is changing.
First message: via your previous provider
Send an SMS from your existing sender ID and include:
- The new sender ID you’re migrating to
- A way to opt-out from SMS marketing
- Any customer care contact information
Second message: via Ometria
Between 12-24 hours after the first message, send a second SMS from your new Ometria sender ID.

Remember to include:
- A way to opt-out from SMS marketing
- Any customer care contact information
- Information about how frequently you plan to send SMS
Opt-out rate
The average opt-out rate for a migration message is about 2-2.5%, which is slightly higher than regular text messages.
Testing your SMS campaigns
We recommend experimenting with incentives such as coupons and testing emojis, message length and personalisation using split tests.
