You can use the Send text message action in the automation campaign builder to send SMS and/or MMS messages.

Tip: If you want to send broadcast style/scheduled text messages (and push notifications), use the Enter contacts at a specific date and time entry trigger. For best practices, see: Sending scheduled SMS and Push campaigns

Note: If you don’t already have text messages enabled you’ll need to contact your Customer Success Representative before getting started to discuss commercials and enablement.

MMS supported countries

MMS is only supported for contacts in Canada and the US.

If your business operates in another region, you can only send MMS to contacts in Canada or the US.

Landlines

Landline telephone numbers are automatically filtered out of your SMS sends.

Create your text message template

You'll need to build a template for your text message in the Templates screen.

Setting up an automation campaign with text messages

Once you've saved and published your templates(s) you can start using it in your automation campaigns.

Create a new automation campaign as usual.

When setting up your actions and conditions, select Add action > Send text message and choose a template from the dropdown:

You can Preview the template or click Edit this send to open the template editor (make sure you've saved your campaign first!)

Send as transactional

Override template settings

Toggle on to override the link shortening and UTM rules inherited from this template:

Send from

You can choose to override your default sender ID.

This means you can use a different sender ID for each segment you send to, e.g. you might want to use a unique sender ID per store.

Coupon pool

Choose a coupon pool to include in this text message send:

Be aware: If you're sending coupon reminders to your recipients using Only re-send assigned coupons, you'll need to include jinja conditions to your message to make sure you don't accidentally send an empty merge tag.

Save and test

Once you're happy with your setup, Save your changes and continue to build the rest of your flow.

Testing mode works the same way as for all automation campaigns.

Contacts without text message marketing preferences

If a contact isn’t opted in to receive text message marketing from you, they will exit the campaign flow after the Send text message node without receiving a message from you.

Tip: With this in mind, if you’re creating a campaign with both email and texts, it’s best practice to have your Send text message node at the end of the flow.

Which triggers can I use for text message campaigns?

All triggers can be used to enter contacts into an SMS campaign.

Which opt-out should I use for SMS?

We recommend including a link to unsubscribe from SMS marketing in every SMS you send.
