Zapier is a tool that connects an app (e.g. Facebook) to a second app (e.g. Ometria) to automate actions based on a trigger in the first app. These triggers are called ‘zaps’.
For example, you can create a zap which connects Facebook Lead Ads with Ometria, so that every time a new lead is picked up by Facebook Lead Ads (the trigger) a new contact is created in Ometria (the action).
You can also update existing contacts’ details and add them to static segments.
More help is available from Zapier here.
Set up a trigger in Zapier
Log into your Zapier account and select Make a Zap!
Select your trigger - in this example 'Facebook Lead Ads'.
Select your trigger event, i.e. the event which will create an action in Ometria. Then click CONTINUE.
You are prompted to choose your Facebook account and sign in:
Select the relevant Facebook page as well as the form you’d like to pull information from:
Select CONTINUE.
Test your connection
- To test your connection, click TEST & CONTINUE. If Zapier finds an example item, you'll proceed to set up the rest of your Zap
- If you want to review the data that Zapier pulls from your trigger, click TEST & REVIEW.
Zapier finds some sample data from your trigger app (e.g. Facebook) to use in the zap. This sample can be used as test data.
Set up your action
In the next step, choose the app (Ometria) and select an action to perform.
Choose your app:
Select your action - in this case, when a new lead is identified in Facebook it will trigger the creation of a new contact in Ometria:
You also have the option to trigger the merging of an existing contact, updating their details, and adding contacts to segments.
To do this, select CONTINUE and choose your Ometria account.
Allow Zapier access to Ometria
If this is your first time using Ometria with Zapier, select + Add a New Account and follow the instructions in the pop up to allow Zapier access:
Only users with administrator account permissions can access the API keys tab.
Enter your API key and select Yes, Continue.
Define your contact fields
The Customize Contact fields display in the next screen.
In this step, you can customise the data that you want to send to Ometria:
Only the Email Address field is mandatory, the rest are optional - use as many or as few as you like.
|
Field |
Description |
|
Email Address (Required) |
The new contact’s email. |
|
Subscription Status |
Select whether or not to subscribe the new contact. If you leave this field blank the contact's subscription status will not change. |
|
Add to Static |
Select a segment to add the new contact to. You can select multiple segments. |
|
Customer ID |
The contact's unique ID (if applicable). See also: Customer ID |
|
Title |
The new contact’s title, e.g. Mr, Ms, Dr, etc. |
|
First Name |
The new contact’s first name. |
|
Middle Name |
The new contact’s middle name. |
|
Last Name |
The new contact’s last name/surname. |
|
Gender |
The new contact’s gender. Ometria currently supports the values:
Use the value "o" when the contact's gender is known but it is not "m" or "f". If the contact's gender is unknown then the field "gender" should not be included. If left empty, gender is inferred from the contact's prefix (e.g 'Ms' will be 'f'). |
|
Phone Number |
The new contact's mobile phone number, in E.164/International format (e.g. starting "+447...") or National format (without the country code prefix)
Note: country_id is required in order to validate the phone number in this format.
|
|
Date of Birth |
The new contact’s birth date. Use ISO 8601 date format YYYY-MM-DD. |
|
Custom Contact Field |
Any Ometria custom contact field. To use this field you will need to enter the field ID in the first field.
Note: The custom field ID should be lower case and contain no spaces, e.g. skin_type, loyalty_tier.
|
Test your fields
Once you’ve customised your fields, you can perform a quick test:
- To test your connection and move on, click TEST & CONTINUE.
- To test your connection and review your information, click TEST & REVIEW.
If the test is successful, the message below displays (this is the TEST & REVIEW option):
It’s also worthwhile checking that the test has been sent to Ometria in the segment explorer.
Next steps
Your Zap is now ready:
If you are happy with your zap, you can turn it on by selecting the switch at the bottom of the screen:
Once your Zap is turned on, Zapier will run your action steps each time your trigger event occurs.
You can view a log of all your Zap activity, including all the data that goes in and out of each of your Zap steps, in your Task History.
If you have questions about apps in Zapier which are not Ometria, please contact Zapier directly.
