Ometria maintains a suppression list made up of email addresses that are considered uncontactable.
Contacts on the suppression list are 'suppressed' from your email sends to protect your deliverability.

Ometria's suppression list comprises two levels:
- Account suppression list
- Ometria's master suppression list
Master suppression list
This list applies to all Ometria accounts.
It's made up of email addresses known to have hard bounced, as well as addressed with mistyped domains or domains that don't exist any more.
Account suppression list
This list is unique to your Ometria account, and includes any suppression list you provided to us during your onboarding process.
Contacts are added to the account suppression list for any of the following reasons:
| Reason | Description |
| Spam complaint | When a contact marks an email as spam, it is an industry requirement to add them to a suppression list. |
| Multiple soft bounces |
See also: Bounce management in Omertria Typically, multiple soft bounces indicates a full mailbox, i.e. the contact has no space left to receive any more emails. If an email address 'soft' bounces three times in 60 days, Ometria adds them to the account suppression list. You can customise this in Channel settings. |
| list-unsubscribe |
The list-unsubscribe function is provided by some mail boxes to allow users to quickly unsubscribe from mailing lists they haven't been engaging with. If a contact clicks Unsubscribe from their inbox, they're added to your account suppression list and unsubscribed. |
Suppression and subscription
Most suppressed contacts will still display as subscribed, however they will show a Suppressed flag in their contact profile:
Contacts who have used the list-unsubscribe feature in their mailbox will show as Unsubscribed and Suppressed.
