A multi-language template is an email template that contains translation tags in all or some of its blocks.
These templates can be used in multi-language campaigns:
When you create a multi-language template in the campaign builder you can add different translations for each of the multi-language blocks.
Multi-language blocks have icons identifying them:
Once you've added all of your translated copy, your contacts will receive emails in their preferred language.
Note: You'll need to upload any images and GIFs with translated text to the asset manager.
Build a multi-language template
If you don't have a multi-language master template ready to use, get in touch with our Creative Team who can build one for you.
Go to Campaigns > Templates > Create new template
Select your multi-language template from the master tab.
Use the visual editor to add the blocks you need to your template.
Don't add any copy in the visual editor - you will do this in the next step.
Add and edit translations in templates
Once you're happy with your template, Save it and select Add translations in the top right:
The Choose template languages screen displays, showing all of the languages available to use with this template.
You can stick with your default translations, or you can customise the ones you need:
Click Save.
The translations table displays:
You're ready to Edit your translation table.
Send the translation table to a third party
Once you've completed the Source language copy in the first column, you can select Translation actions to request a translation from a third party, e.g. a translations agency:
There are two options for sending:
- Request translation via API
- Download translation .xls file
Request translation via API
This option sends your template data to an API endpoint so that a third party can access, edit and send your translations back.
When you request a translation via API, you'll need to define the following:
Field | Description |
Request translations for |
|
Select languages for translation | Select the languages you need translations for. |

Cancel a translation request
If you've requested a translation via API and need to cancel it, you can click Cancel translation(s) in the top left corner.
This option displays whenever there is at least one translation request still open:

Download translation .xls file
Select Download translation .xls file to download a copy of your translation table as an excel file.

Translation statuses
These are the available statuses for translations:
- Pending - A new template has been created
- Translations requested - Translations have been requested from a third party via API
- Translations received - The translated copy was sent back to Ometria for review
- Approved - The translated copy has been manually approved by another user and can't be edited
- Re-approval needed - New multi-language blocks have been added to the template after the translation was approved. It requires a second round of approval.
