You can delete segments of contacts from Ometria, removing all data relating to them from the system.
Only users with admin permissions can use this feature.
Contacts who are deleted from Ometria can re-enter if they sign up via subscription form again.
Ometria processes all deletion requests at 11:00pm UTC each day - this means that if you send a deletion request at 8:00am GMT, the status will be 'pending' most of the day.
Which data do we delete?
Once a contact is deleted, all data related to that contact is deleted, except for:
- Number of orders for broadcast campaigns only
- Total revenue for broadcast campaigns only
Preparing a segment for deletion
You can delete any static segment from Ometria - if you already know which segment you want to delete, go straight to deleting a segment.
If you want to create a new static list comprising the contacts you want to delete, upload a CSV file containing the contacts you want to delete and create a static segment with a unique title.
If you're deleting a segment for list hygiene reasons, or to remove spam bots, you can also send the list to our Deliverability team who will suppress the segment for you. This means Ometria won't send any emails to them if they re-subscribe later.
It's also a good idea to exclude this segment from your automation and broadcast campaigns while the deletion request is pending.
Deleting a segment
Once your new segment is created, go to Customers > Saved segments and find the segment.
From the dropdown menu in the Settings column, select Delete contacts:
Read the warning carefully and make sure you’ve followed all the preliminary steps:
Enter the name of the segment exactly as it displays in Ometria.
Select Delete contacts to delete the segment - deletion begins immediately.
You can check the segment's status in the Saved segments screen:
- Pending deletion - the request has been sent and is waiting in the queue
- Processing deletion - the request has been accepted and the data is being deleted
- Deletion failed - the segment hasn’t been deleted and you need to retry
You can only have one deletion request pending or in progress at any time.
You'll get an email when the process has been completed.

Contact deletion can take from 48 hours up to 10 days for very large segments.
Review all deleted segments along with their names and the number of contacts deleted in your security audit logs:
