An entry trigger (or ‘triggering event’) is the event that enrols a contact in a flow, e.g. contact abandons a basket, makes a second purchase, browsed a specific product, etc.)
Mouse-over the Trigger tile and select the cog icon to configure.
See Automation campaign triggers for a full list of available triggers.
Opt-in rules
See also: How does Ometria subscribe and unsubscribe contacts?
Automation campaign entry triggers enter contacts based on how their opt-in status relates to the send nodes in your campaign. For example, if your campaign contains email send nodes, it will only enter contacts opted in to email unless you have set the campaign to ignore opt ins.
Opt-in status is checked again when a contact reaches a Send email, Send push notification or Send SMS action, so any contacts who are not opted-in to receive those marketing communications from you will leave the campaign.
See: Setting up a multi-channel campaign based on opt-in
If your campaign doesn't use any send actions at all, e.g. only sync segments, add to list, remove from list, update contact data, etc. then all contacts can enter regardless of opt-in status.
Mixing transactional and marketing sends
When a send node is marked Send as transactional, its opt-in is not checked at entry. This means in a multi-channel campaign with both transactional and marketing sends, only the marketing channels decide who enters.
When a campaign includes a Send SMS action, contacts must meet two conditions to enter the flow:
- They have a valid phone number on their contact record.
- They have SMS marketing consent.
Contacts who do not meet both conditions are filtered out at entry and do not appear in the campaign.
Example: Jane has SMS marketing consent but no phone number on her record. She does not enter the campaign, because Ometria cannot send her an SMS. Roy has a phone number on his record but has not given SMS marketing consent. He also does not enter the campaign.
Opt-in status is re-checked at the Send SMS action itself, so any contact whose consent changes between entry and the send node leaves the campaign at that point.

Entry limit
The maximum number of contacts entering an automation flow in one go is 1000.
Ometria checks for contacts that satisfy an automation trigger every few minutes.
When these contacts are identified, Ometria will enter up to 1000 in the flow.
If you're mass uploading your contacts to a segment, be aware that the campaign won’t trigger to more than 1000 contacts at a time, and the remaining contacts will be ignored.
To avoid this, upload your contacts in batches of 1000 at a time.
Four hour limit
All events recorded in Ometria have a timestamp.
An event with a timestamp more than four hours in the past will not enter the contact into the automation flow unless you use an entry wait node to extend this period.
