You can use the Send SMS action with any of the other functionality available in the automation campaign builder, including split tests, triggers, adding contacts to static lists, etc.
Automated SMS are great for welcome campaigns, win-back campaigns, sending personalised messages to VIPs, etc.
Landlines
Landline telephone numbers are automatically filtered out of your SMS sends.
Create your SMS template
You'll need to build a template for your SMS send in the Templates screen.
See: SMS templates
Setting up an SMS automation campaign
Once you've saved and published your SMS template you can start using it in your automation campaigns.
Create a new automation campaign as usual.
When setting up your actions and conditions, select Add action > Send SMS:
Choose a template from the dropdown.
You can Preview the template or click Edit this send to open the template editor (make sure you've saved your campaign first!)
Send as transactional
See: SMS send as transactional
Override template settings
Toggle on to override the link shortening and UTM rules inherited from this template:
Send from
You can choose to override your default sender ID from the SMS builder in your automation campaign:
This means you can use a different sender ID for each segment you send to, e.g. you might want to use a unique sender ID per store.
Coupon pool
Choose a coupon pool to include in this SMS send:
See: Add coupons to automation campaigns
Once you're happy with your SMS setup, Save your changes and continue to build the rest of your flow.
See: Save and Publish an automation
Save and test
Once you’re happy with your preview, select Save on the Send SMS node and continue setting up your flow.
Testing mode works the same way as for all automation campaigns.

Contacts without SMS preferences
If a contact isn’t opted in to receive SMS marketing from you, they will exit the campaign flow after the Send SMS node without receiving an SMS from you.
Which triggers can I use for SMS campaigns?
All triggers can be used to enter contacts into an SMS campaign.
Which opt-out should I use for SMS?
We recommend including a link to unsubscribe from SMS marketing in every SMS you send.
You can do this by selecting the Link to unsubscribe in the campaign builder:
Twilio exceptions
Twilio users can also choose to use opt-out keywords (e.g. STOP), but only if you are using a two-way sender ID that contacts can reply to.
Be aware that Ometria doesn't automatically sync unsubscriptions sent to Twilio via opt out keywords.
If you’re using this method then you must update Ometria with changes to your contacts’ opt-in statuses via CSV file.
