Custom fields are properties unique to your account. These can be anything from a customer's loyalty points to an order's shipping method or a line item's discount type.
Custom fields store information about your contacts, orders, and order line items, passed into Ometria via your eCommerce importer (e.g. Magento, Shopify), API, CSV upload or a third party connection.
You can use these fields to segment contacts, generate reports, and send customised emails. Order and order line item custom fields with Segmentation visibility enabled can be used to filter contacts in the customer filter.
You can create up to 100 custom fields per custom field type.
This total includes archived custom fields.
Exceptions
If you require custom fields for any of the following, please raise a support request instead of following the process below:
- Mention Me integrations
- LoyaltyLion integrations
- Your Ometria overlay
If you are setting up custom fields for Shopify tags or your Magento importer, you can use the process below, and once the fields are created you should raise a support request so our team can help you complete the required mapping.

Choose the areas of the platform where you want this field to appear:
Note: For Order and Order line items fields, only Segmentation and Campaigns are currently available. You cannot select Single customer view or Reports for these categories. Note: The Segmentation option doesn't apply to List of product IDs fields. |
Once you have created a field, you won't be able to delete it, only archive it.
Select Create once you're happy with the setup.
Single choice (Enum) fields
Single choice fields let you define a list of accepted values for a field. When you use this field in the customer filter, values appear as a dropdown instead of a free-text input.
Warning: Values must match your data exactly, including capitalisation. Once saved, values cannot be removed.
When you select the Single choice (Enum) type, a Set predefined list values field appears in the form. Enter each value and press Enter to add it. You can add up to 100 values.
When you save a field with new values, a confirmation dialogue appears showing the values that will be saved. Review these carefully before confirming.
Creating segments with custom fields
Once created, custom fields with Segmentation visibility enabled appear in the customer filter, and you can build segments using that data.
- Contact custom fields appear under Customer Attributes in the customer filter.
- Order and Order line items custom fields appear inside the order node ("Has an order with the following details"), under Order custom fields and Order line item custom fields sections.
Note: You must create the custom field first. You can only segment on data that was sent after you created your custom field.
For more detail on using order and order line item custom fields in the customer filter, including operators by field type and aggregation options, see: Filtering by order and order line item custom fields.
Custom fields are identified with an information icon in the customer filter.
If you've included an example when setting up your custom field, you can see that when you hover on the field:
